Call of Duty: Black ops 6 does it live up to the hype?

Call of Duty Black ops 6 is one of the most popular games when it comes to online shooters. Even sporting a quality campaign and a zombies mode to play, how does this entry fare against its brethren?

You probably at least heard of the game, you even probably have some friends that have been playing it for some time now. If you want to join but don’t want to be behind in rank, level or just skins in your account, you can get help for most of those here. This way you can be in equal footing with your teammates or even higher!

Summary

Whether it’s Infinity Ward with Modern Warfare or Treyarch with the black ops series, Call of Duty is one of gaming’s biggest franchise and specially so when it comes to playing it with other people whether online or split screen. This is a tradition that Call of Duty has kept up with each entry in all of its different iterations. Each entry has its own thing, but Black Ops 6 decided to stir the pot and give us a lot of features the players wanted back and some we didn’t even know we needed! Let’s get into it.

Gameplay

Compared to its predecessors, Black Ops 6 is faster and meaner than the rest. Thanks to the Omnimovement mechanic. With this you can sprint in any direction independently of where you are looking which on paper it might not sound so impressive but in practice it drastically changes how you approach every single encounter. Added to your list of moves is a very useful dive, which you can also do in any direction. This can throw off your opponents aim as you are in midair and probably aiming right back at them! This isn’t it, though, you can also take other players’ hostage by sneaking up behind them. This will let you use them as a meat shield while you shoot your opponents. It also opens the mic between the two of you so you can engage in some good old fashion trash talking or just hearing the reaction from the player you grabbed can also be quite funny!

So overall you can tell that the devs were seeing the fast phased plays and wanted to deliver tools for you to play even faster.

Arsenal

Black ops 6 isn’t the Call of Duty game with the most guns. That award (without counting Warzone) would go to modern warfare (2019) with a whopping 88 guns, whereas Black Ops 6 has 39 weapons as of now. However, these devs focused on giving a different feel to the guns, making each of them feel like they earned their place in the game, as opposed to having many guns where half of them feel almost identical. They know Call of Duty fans loved the weapons customization that was present in Black Ops 2. They brought it back with full force, letting you customize the gun with a plethora of attachments to make each gun feel like you want it to. You can change their recoil, noise, or spread among other things.

Maps

The new movement mechanics made it so that the player can pretty much parkour now, so maps had to adapt to this mobility by making maps that could force the player to put the movement to the test. With a total of 20 maps as of writing this article. Some are new and some are returning fan favorite maps. Let’s get into some of the better maps this game has to offer.

  • Vorkuta: a snow covered abandoned complex. This mid-size map is ideal for 6v6 games, with its open spaces for an all out battle or narrow hallways for tense 1v1 encounters with the enemy. This map also features a snow storm that limits vision, further increasing the tension of the match!
  • Steak out: This map takes place in a very compact apartment complex, where you and your team will face the enemy in a series of hallways and small rooms. These small spaces also force you to play well with close quarter weapons.
  • Rewind:This map takes place in a mall strip. Composed of two large strips, it reminds me almost of something you would see in Counter-strike Global Offensive. It’s large hallways for long range fights combined with the smaller rooms where you can ambush your opponent really showcase Black Ops 6’s versatility in gameplay styles.

Those are the new fan favorite maps in this game, but there’s also plenty of returning maps such as Nuketown, Firing range, Grind, Hacienda, and Launch. These are all remade from scratch and with slightly different layouts to make up for the difference in movement and play style this game has compared to their respective game of origin. This way, you can get your fair share of nostalgia along with a brand-new experience!

Updates

Of course, the main difference between Black Ops 6 and the previous ones is that, with the exception of Warzone, the older titles are no longer being supported, and new content won’t be released for them. With events and new skins, weapons and guns, it’s obvious why players choose to stick to the newer title. There’s constantly some event or new mode that keeps players coming back to try out what wacky or cool thing they added this time. Such as the Squid Game event or a new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles crossover that they announced recently.

In conclusion

Black Ops 6 is a behemoth of a game, in this article we focused only on the multiplayer alone, but there’s also a thrilling campaign and the beloved zombies mode made a return in a completely new “open world” form. It’s not a mystery at all why players just keep coming back to this franchise entry after entry. There’s just no other game that does what Call of Duty does as well as them.
