SASSA, the organisation in South Africa that is working for the betterment of South African people keeps on making amendments and changes in its grants payments and other setups. The organisation engages in such steps to make sure everything is perfect on their edge and to help needy people in the best possible way.
Recently the organisation has shown interest in increasing SASSA grants in the upcoming year 2025. Although the increment in payment was already made in 2024 in the months of April and October, still it is expected that there would be a significant increase again, the next year.
Remember the information is not yet official or the news is not officially announced but there are high chances that the organisation will make a significant increase in their payments in the next year.
2025 SASSA Budget!
The budget that has been set for 2024 / 2025 financial year for SASSA grants allocation is comparatively all time high with R 266 billion. Since the budget of this year is comparatively high, this means the grant amount for the next financial year will definitely be higher than the current amount.
Expected Increment In Grants
According to the research and on the basis of recent trends, we can estimate that the major SASSA grants in 2025 will get an increment of somewhere around 5% and not more than that. The grant amount will exceed the 4.8% increase from the last year but keep in mind it is still not enough to cover inflation driven costs. For your information here is the breakdown of expected increases of the grants that will be in 2025.
Old Age Pensioner Grant (60-74):
Old age South Africans who are getting grants from SASSA and are aged in between 60-74 years are currently getting R 2190. This grant is expected to increase up to R 2290 in April of 2025. This would be followed by another increase of R 10 in October that would make the total old age pension for the eligible South Africans between the age of 60 to 74 years, equals to R 2300.
Old Age Pensioner Grant (75 and older):
The old age grant holders who are getting grants in South Africa and are aged 75 and older are currently getting R 2210. There would be a 5% increase in their pension that is expected to be made in April 2025 and that will make the net payment of the grant equals to R 2310. This will also be followed by another increase of R10 in October that will make the total grant amount R 2320.
Disability Grant:
Disability Grant holders are currently getting R 2190 as their monthly SASSA grant payment. The grant will be increased to R 2290 with a 5% increment that will be made in April 2025. There would be another minor addition of R 10 in October 2025 that will make the total payment of Disability Grant equals to R 2300.
Care Dependency Grant:
According to observations, analysis, and research, it has also been estimated that there would also be a significant increase in Care Dependency Grant for 2025 financial year. The current amount of Care Dependency Grant is R 2190 that may get an increment of 5% in which the grant amount as a whole will be increased up to R 2290 in April 2025. This will be followed by another minor improvement of R 10 that will make the total of Care Dependency Grant, R 2300 in the month of October.
War Veterans Grant:
War Veterans Grant is also expected to face an increment of 5%. It is currently R 2190 and it will be expected to increase up to R 2290 in April 2025. Moreover, it is also estimated that there will be an increase in War Veterans Grants with the addition of R 10 that will make the total grant monthly amount equal to R 2300 in October 2025.
No Increment For Child Care Grants?
Currently SASSA is offering 3 types of grants to assist childrens. All three grants related to children that are offered by SASSA including Child Support grant, Foster Care Grant and Child Support Top-up Grant makes up approximately 65% of the total agency’s expenditure.

Child Support Grant:
The child support grant that is currently R 530 which is expected to get an increment of R 530 that would make the total Child Support Grant equals to R 560 in April 2025. Remember there would be no additional increase in the next 2025 year, after the increment made in April 2025.
Child Support Top-up Grant:
The Child Support Top-up grant that is currently R 250 will be increased to R 265 in April 2025 and there would be no another increment in October 2025.
Foster Care Grant:
The Foster Care Grant is currently R 1180. It would be increased up to R 1200 with the addition of R 20 in it in the next year, April 2025.
Future Of SRD Grant Payment
We cannot predict whether a Social Relief of Distress Grant, the SRD grant will be increased in 2025 or not. Although currently the grant has been extended up to March 2025, there is still no confirmation whether it will be extended beyond the month of March or not.
Moreover, there is a public discussion that revolves around the transformation of the SRD grant into Universal Basic Grant. The idea is no more strong because of the financial crisis and the budget challenges that are currently ongoing in the country. There are no plans nor any confirmed announcements made by the government related to the SRD grant and the alternative source of financial assistance in case the SRD grant is discontinued.
