This private rest apartment tailored for two people has an innovative and distinctive design concept.
Nordhavn, the industrial port of Copenhagen where THE KRANE crane-style hotel is located, is one of the last areas of the Danish capital to undergo port renovation. Located on the edge of the port， THE KRANE is like an oasis in an industrial“DESERT”. The designer set black as the main color throughout the design to allude to a dark past of coal mining with cranes. To cultivate a calm and peaceful atmosphere, the first floor of this multi-story building is the reception area, the second floor is a meeting room called a “glass box”, the third floor has a spa and balcony, and the top floor is a suite “crane room” containing a lounge and balcony.
Art is landscape
“The moment you walk into THE KRANE, you will immediately feel the redefining of Danish luxury. It is the ultimate elegance that leaves only the essence. Here, all sensory experiences and architectural atmospheres blend. As far as the eye can see, they are all landscapes, and as far as the ears can hear, they are all customs. ” The architect explained that ”what the crane creates is an all-round sense of transparency because natural light directly affects our experience and mood in the space, so our internal design maximizes the capture of natural light. At the same time, the transparent field of view also maximizes the outdoor water landscape. We choose the most suitable materials and carefully adjust the angle of light incident and how it affects people’s perception of things around them.
In addition, the external waters are a highlight, and 80% of THE KRANE’s experience comes from water. Summer in Denmark is exceptionally long, with days from five in the morning to ten in the evening. Located on the coastline, the scattered light is very soft. In THE KRANE, even in stormy weather, the scenery outside the window is still charming.”
Black level change
In addition to being a metaphor for coal, black can also greatly weaken visual interference and give people in it a sense of peace. At the same time, the black color highlights the changes in light and the beauty of the outside world. Black is more than just one color-“There are thousands of different shades and levels of black in the world. Still life
Leather, wood, stone, and steel are often just the materials used in furniture design or decorative arts. But here they are used to make furniture tailored to the design concept and space scale main furniture such as beds, seats, and cabinets are integrated with the wall panels, and large functional blocks are hidden. In this way, every piece of furniture is like a work of art like a still-life sculpture. Every item is handmade by craftsmen to respect Denmark’s unique craftsmanship.
