Luxury Hotel Transformation of a Port Crane in Copenhagen: A Tranquil Getaway from the Urban Rush

The hotel transformed an industrial coal crane in the port into a private residence. THE KRANE  port cranes Hotel brings people an immersive multi-sensory interactive experience. The predecessor of the project was a coal crane-the unique black-toned Danish design is a tribute to history. The port environment in which the project is located is beautiful and pleasant- not only is there an endless sky and sea, but people can also enjoy a panoramic view of Copenhagen. This private rest apartment tailored for two people has an innovative and distinctive design concept.

Nordhavn, the industrial port of Copenhagen where THE KRANE crane-style hotel is located, is one of the last areas of the Danish capital to undergo port renovation. Located on the edge of the port, THE KRANE is like an oasis in an industrial“DESERT”. The designer set black as the main color throughout the design to allude to a dark past of coal mining with cranes. To cultivate a calm and peaceful atmosphere, the first floor of this multi-story building is the reception area, the second floor is a meeting room called a “glass box”, the third floor has a spa and balcony, and the top floor is a suite “crane room” containing a lounge and balcony.

Art is landscape

“The moment you walk into THE KRANE, you will immediately feel the redefining of Danish luxury. It is the ultimate elegance that leaves only the essence. Here, all sensory experiences and architectural atmospheres blend. As far as the eye can see, they are all landscapes, and as far as the ears can hear, they are all customs. ” The architect explained that ”what the crane creates is an all-round sense of transparency because natural light directly affects our experience and mood in the space, so our internal design maximizes the capture of natural light. At the same time, the transparent field of view also maximizes the outdoor water landscape. We choose the most suitable materials and carefully adjust the angle of light incident and how it affects people’s perception of things around them.

In addition, the external waters are a highlight, and 80% of THE KRANE’s experience comes from water. Summer in Denmark is exceptionally long, with days from five in the morning to ten in the evening. Located on the coastline, the scattered light is very soft. In THE KRANE, even in stormy weather, the scenery outside the window is still charming.”

Black level change

In addition to being a metaphor for coal, black can also greatly weaken visual interference and give people in it a sense of peace. At the same time, the black color highlights the changes in light and the beauty of the outside world. Black is more than just one color-“There are thousands of different shades and levels of black in the world. At different times of the day, you may be able to observe many subtle differences.”Usually, when you go to a hotel, you will feel thousands of things happening around you. You will choose to go to a hotel to rest to relieve the pressure at work, but at this time you have to relieve the pressure brought to you by the noisy environment of the hotel. But in THE KRANE, with the black interior tones and clean snow-white sheets, everything calmed down. Here, you forget the hustle and bustle and find inner peace. Enjoying everything your gaze touches is like admiring a work of art.”

Still life

Leather, wood, stone, and steel are often just the materials used in furniture design or decorative arts. But here they are used to make furniture tailored to the design concept and space scale main furniture such as beds, seats, and cabinets are integrated with the wall panels, and large functional blocks are hidden. In this way, every piece of furniture is like a work of art like a still-life sculpture. Every item is handmade by craftsmen to respect Denmark’s unique craftsmanship.

Old things are reborn

THE KRANE’s location is both unique and inclusive. Since it is only a few minutes away from the city center, whether you rent a living room, spa, meeting room, or reception hall, you will not feel too alienated from the city while staying away from the hustle and bustle.“It’s hard for you to find such a port in Denmark.”Nordhavn still retains its industrial appearance and atmosphere, attracting entrepreneurs, craftsmen, and people from other occupations. We retained the rough industrial feel and injected some fresh elements. An old Harbour Portal Cranes has been turned into a high-end leisure apartment, where you can enjoy champagne and beautiful views to the fullest. This is the luxury experience.”

The 50 square meters on the top floor include a bedroom, lounge, and terrace. Every detail here is extremely important. Compared with the wide outdoor space, it seems a bit unreal and small here. These high-end Danish home design brands are impeccable in their iconic style, quality, and craftsmanship.

Every moment of the guest’s experience at THE KRANE is depicted on a scale as fine as millimeters. From the designated pick-up vehicle at the airport with a reception desk, to explaining the room facilities to the guests, to the breakfast served to the guests every day. The interior design ensures the comfort and relaxation of guests, with high-end customized furniture, and various functions that have been rigorously designed for guests to discover. As it moves in the stairs that rise like a suspension bridge, the steel structure makes guests feel out of the ground. When they reached the balcony at the top, they felt as if they were standing on the top of the world and looking out.

When the transformation of other cities ignores the attractiveness of their past history, THE KRANE is proud of the past and gives a new interpretation. Enjoy this luxurious space that is different from traditional, although high-end, it is also close to life at the same time. Rough and exquisite. Surrounded by enviable views of light and water, take a fresh outing to say goodbye to the busy weekdays for a short time, and you are the only guest.
