Molly’s Game

This movie is about the life of former Olympic skier Molly Bloom whose spinal injury ended her skiing career. As a result, she started managing an underground poker game in the Viper Room in Los Angeles.

Molly eventually starts taking money from player stakes and this leads to her being robbed and beaten. She also becomes a drug addict. The movie was critically acclaimed and director, Aaron Sorkin, shows all the shortcomings of an underground casino. Players in the U.S. today can play poker games online from the convenience of their homes. They can download a casino app and play online from Michigan and other states on their mobile devices.

Uncut Gems

This is a crime thriller movie that describes the life of a gambling addict. You see all the harmful consequences of gambling in the life of Howard Ratner, the owner of a jewelry store. Ratner, the protagonist of the movie, makes high stakes bets. He must balance family, business, and adversaries in pursuit of a huge win. The film is directed by Josh and Benny Safdie and received high ratings from critics and viewers.

Bad things often happen in crime thriller movies when unauthorized users gain access to a Wi-Fi network. Wi-Fi login portals can prevent this from happening.

The Card Counter

Martin Scorsese is the director of the Card Counter, and he creates a plot with a great twist. William Tell learns how to count cards in prison. When he gets out, he decides to play in a casino using this knowledge.

He meets Cirk, a soldier, and decides to help him pay off his debts and start a new life. When he participates in a poker tournament, he manages to win a significant amount. Before he can tell Cirk the news, the soldier is murdered. He starts a fight with the killer and is victorious. Of course, he ends up back in prison and back where he started.

The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar

This movie is a Wes Anderson adaptation of a Roald Dahl book. In the film, Benedict Cumberbatch is a gambler who learns how to beat the house. He studies a guru who can see without using his eyes. He sets out to master this skill so he can cheat at gambling. Armed with the power to read the reverse sides of playing cards, Sugar sets out to fleece his favorite London casino.

He thinks his power will change his life and it does in the sense that he goes through a process of self-discovery. This movie was trending on Netflix, and Wes Anderson won his first-ever Oscar for best live-action short film.

Quiz Lady

The movie Quiz Lady is about a game-show-obsessed woman that is both heartfelt and funny. Ann and her estranged sister Jenny need to cooperate if they want to find a way to pay off their mom’s gambling debt.

When Anne’s dog is held hostage as collateral for the debt, they set out on a cross-country trek. This movie is fictional but gets inspiration from real-life game shows such as Jeopardy. By the end of the film, they pay off the debt, have the dog back, and the sisters are bonded again after years of animosity.

Casino Royale

Casino Royale is one of the older movies on this list, but it is a popular James Bond movie that’s well worth watching. Bond is hired by British intelligence agency MI6 to play against Le Chiffre in a high-stakes poker game. Le Chiffre is the villain of the movie who is financing terrorist organizations.

The showdown between the two is a roughly 30-minute sequence in the movie but it is a masterful microcosm that shows Bond’s mental prowess. Pulling off the scene took research, good editing, and making the poker game as authentic as possible. With Bond and Le Chiffre staring each other down, this scene will keep you spellbound.
